Moisturized Skin for Summer
My skin is a huge part of my story and maybe it’s a big part of yours too. I struggled with acne for years, and finally, after trying every lotion and potion and prescribed skincare product and medication, I went on Accutane. If you’re unfamiliar with Accutane it is a prescribed drug with a high concentration of vitamin A that essentially cures acne. I’ll save the details for a future post if that’s something that interests you!
So, my skin went from one extreme to the other- super oily to super dry. Never in a million years would I have thought that I’d be searching for the world’s most hydrating moisturizer, but alas, here we are. My skin is far from perfect, but I’d have to say I’m pretty well versed in the world of skincare routines (I’ve had a skincare routine since I was 13 years old!).
I really want to share products with you that I truly love and stand behind, so rather than compiling a list of my favorite moisturizers, I’m going to share with you two products I’ve been loving and what I’ve integrated into my daily routine to better hydrate my skin.
Firstly, I’ve been drinking more water. I have to admit, throughout college I became increasingly worse at consuming the recommended daily dose of H2O. Especially when I was traveling I neglected my hydration so I didn’t have to be that person to request bus stops on long trips or climb over people to use the lavatory (I’m a window seat kinda gal). Every skincare article I’ve ever read *ahem* every health article I’ve ever read always starts with the dreaded phrase: drink more water! My siblings are unusually fantastic at drinking more than enough water each day, so I’ve been encouraged by them to keep a refillable water bottle with me at all times. It also helps that they frequently check in on me to make sure I’ve been drinking my water. If you think water is kind of boring, I have an easy tip that’s helped me reach for my glass more often. I got ahold of a pure lemon essential oil and I just add two drops of it into my water and I’m all set with lemon water for the day without the hassle of cutting up a lemon. Simply drinking more water has remedied my dry skin a ton.
The moisturizer I’ve been LOVING lately: the Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream by Fresh. It’s rose water base not only leaves my skin dewy but smells amazing too. I use it morning, night, and before I put my makeup on and it gives me a clean canvas to work with for the day. Since my skin is fairly sensitive, it reacts to products easily, but I didn’t experience any problems with this moisturizer. Although this product is pricey, it’s well worth the investment. Unlike other high-end moisturizers, it doesn’t require multiple layers to ensure hydrated skin, so I don’t have to purchase a new one every other week. I also bought the coordinating tinted lip treatment which contains SPF 15 so my lips don’t burn in the sunny summer months. The color is subtle, the product smells amazing, and protects all in one (a win-win-win if you ask me!).
Since November, I’ve been using the Berlin Skin facial collection, which I’ll review in another post, but long story short I’ve been loving the line. When I wash my face, I’ve been more conscious of the water temperature. This goes for my showers too. I’ve been using lukewarm water so the heat doesn’t suck all the moisture out of my skin. As far as shower temperature goes, I know I’m at the right temperature when I get out and the mirror isn’t completely covered in steam.
So there you have it, a few products and simple adjustments to my skincare routine that has left me more hydrated than ever. I love talking skincare. In fact, it’s what probed me to start this blog.
