Spring is finally upon us. The air isn't quite as cold, the trees are beginning to blossom, and the light of the sun holds onto the day a little bit longer. This is the season for renewal. After all, isn't there a reason spring cleaning is a thing?! Just as I love the start of a new day, I love the mark of a new season just the same. Sometimes winter leaves me in a rut, whether it be in regards to style, creativity, or inspiration, the lack of vitamin D can give us all a case of winter blues. So in an effort to refresh my life a little, I'm sharing a few things we can all do to start spring right!
1. Incorporate fresh flowers into your life
Fresh flowers are a great reminder of the life this season is about to bring. There is a time to bloom and a time to prepare for growth. Currently the windowsills in my home are lined with greenery and a lot of grapefruits (tis' the season for fresh fruit am I right?!) and it brightens my spirit with every look. I remember when I was younger, there was a garden outside my elementary school where we would plant tulips in each year. We learned that when tulips start to wilt, we are to clip off the bulbs and replant them, leaving the stem and leaves standing. The leaves may begin to fall and the plant may turn brown, but we leave this part standing because the bulb we planted needs the part above to feed and gain energy for the next bloom. I found an important lesson in this, years after my third grade science class. Just as we may feel uninspired with the season we're in, we can prepare for our next bloom. Though we may wilt, we have a spirit that needs nourishing. Invest in strong roots, and a stem that will sustain you. Choose to grow no matter the circumstances. The lessons we've learned in our previous season can be used to help us bloom in our next season of life.
2. Treat yourself
Maybe not with Easter candy since you've been working for that spring break bod since the new year, but with something new. Maybe you've been eyeing a super cute bikini for the summer months or have had a summer dress in your cart at Urban since their resort collection launched. All you need is a little something new to inspire you to create new outfit combinations for spring. Go for it, you've earned it.
3. Make a healthy meal
Though few and far between, I enjoy actually making the recipes I pin on Pinterest. Grab your girlfriends, your family, or whoever and create a healthy meal you can enjoy together. Every Monday this semester was set aside for me and my best gal friends to make a real dinner while enjoying this season of The Bachelor. We were not only nourishing our bodies, but our relationships as well.
4. Create a seasonal bucket list
I'm a fairly structured person and enjoy utilizing my planner in any way I can. That being said, I enjoy making lists. I'm also a big believer in setting goals and dreaming a little (or a lot). So, you could definitely say bucket lists are the perfect blend of the two. Write down the things you want to accomplish in the next few months. Create a list of places you'd like to visit before the season ends. Resolutions don't have to wait for the new year, start fresh whenever you want. Here are a few things on my spring bucket list:
- Take a day trip to a nearby city to discover its nooks and crannies
- Go to a drive in movie (I've never been!)
- Have technology free bonfire with my favorite people
- Spend the day outside picnicking, canoeing, and doing other adventurous things
There is no better way to get out of a rut than to give. It doesn't have to be money. If you do a little spring cleaning, maybe donate what you're getting rid of instead of selling it. Give your time to people you'd like to invest more in. Participate in a philanthropy or a volunteer day. Practicing generosity will remind you of how blessed you are and may give you a new perspective on a new season.
