Happy 2016! I couldn't be more excited for a new year to be here. While 2015 was great, it was a year of many transitions and a year of growth more than anything. It was one of those "in the meantime" kind of years. We all have them and I think there is something valuable to be learned from them. Not everything will go as planned even when you have everything planned (can I get an amen?!). Having a plan and layout for my life and future is great for keeping me on track and I quickly learned that no matter how much I plan, that God just might have something different in mind, and that's okay. It's more than okay, because when it comes down to it, I have no idea what I'm doing and could really use some guidance. Truthfully, being humble is hard when you want full control over every aspect in your life. There is something to be said about letting go and letting God. Ahh... what a year 2015 was.
Though I worked New Years Eve, I was able to make it home with enough time to celebrate with my family. Of course, we bought loads of confetti poppers, crowns, and sparkling grape juice to last until next year which made the night all the more magical. In previous years, we've had larger gatherings, but this year was a bit more intimate, mainly family and a few friends joined in on the celebration. Needless to say, the night led into a happy new year for sure.
It doesn't feel like a new year without creating a list of dreams and goals for the upcoming 366 days. So, to welcome in 2016 I'm sharing a few of my dreams with you.
1. Grow in my relationship with Christ (on my list every year)
There is always room to grow, more to learn and more to experience, especially spiritually. I always look forward to investing in the most important relationship in my life.
2. Adventure more
I really want to place more value on experiences rather than things. I desire to travel, explore and try new things. Adventure to me ranges from visiting a new coffee shop to traveling abroad.
3. Love more
Some things are easy to love, and others, not so much. The same goes for people. Recognizing the worth of everyone and loving well is something I, as a Jesus follower, am called to do. Love is powerful and has the ability to change someone's world. I want to be a part of that, you feel?
4. Journal often
My goal is actually to journal daily, but I'm using the term "often" so I don't give up on myself if I miss a day. This is going to be a big year for me (I feel it!), and I want to capture every aspect of it. Plus, it's a great, therapeutic way to end the day. Right before bed is the perfect time to reflect on a busy day and settle into a calm night. I'm really going to make it an effort to integrate journaling into my nightly routine.
More is not always better. Eliminating clutter, toxic relationships, addictions (helloooo Instagram), and negativity from my life needs to be a priority this year. Why waste time on things that drag you down? Life is too short to waste time, or at least that's what I hear. Less time online, more time being present. Less time being a people pleaser, more time investing in meaningful, genuine relationships. Less time cleaning up messes and digging through piles of clutter, more time for adventure, blogging, reading... and who knows what else!
Well, these are my top five goals for the year. These are dreams I'm taking steps toward achieving. Of course, I have more on my list, exercise more, spend less, eat healthy... you know, the cliche, but necessary goals? We all have them. I hope you gained a little more insight on my life and my vision for 2016, I'd love to hear from you! What are some of your resolutions or goals for the year?
Cheers to a happy, safe and wonderful 2016.
